Arts & Culture

Friday, July 5th – The New York Open Film Festival was established to give New York filmmakers a chance to premiere their work in a unique venue. This one of a kind festival is most likely the only one to bring tennis enthusiasts, movie lovers and filmmakers together in a seamless manner. Check out a screening and see for yourself.   (New York Open Film Festival)

Sports

Friday, July 5th – Sunday, July 7th – Keep the spirit of America’s Independence alive and well all weekend long with it’s greatest pastime! Take the train to the Bronx to cheer on your New York Yankees as the take on the Baltimore Orioles in a three game series at the house that Jeter built! (New York Yankees)

Music & Entertainment

Friday, July 5th – Movie release day. Quiet night tonight? Check out the films opening this weekend. The fireworks may be over, but there’s still time to check out these explosive releases at the box office! Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer bring the much loved television show, “The Lone Ranger” (PG-13) to the silver screen. Early word from critics is not extremely positive. But, hey it’s a family movie so bring the kids and escape the heat for a few hours. Speaking of family ready flicks, “Despicable Me 2″ (PG) is sure to clean up at the cinema with the voices of Steve Carell and Kristen Wiig bringing some solid humor into the mix.

Saturday, July 6th- Actress turned indie singing queen, Zooey Deschanel and her partner in crime M. Ward are, “She & Him.” Grab your tickets now to witness these two talented cats take over the Central Park SummerStage. Keep your July 4th party going with their signature classic approach to the male and female duo.  (Central Park SummerStage)

Nightlife

Friday, July 5th – Get ready to have your mind blown and your booty bounced when you check out DJ Damian Lazarus at New York’s hottest club, Marquee tonight! Tickets are on sale now. (Marquee NYC)

Other

Sunday, July 7th – For over a decade and counting Matt Timms has been traveling the country proving that cooking competitions can be as fun as rock concerts. Timms returns home to The Bell House, the popular Brooklyn venue for one of his famed “Ice Cream Takedowns” which happens to be one of the most competitive in his entire arsenal. For one Sunday afternoon guests can sample more than thirty local home cooks’ take on this legendary dessert. In the past we have tasted everything from bacon to doughnut flavored ice cream and needless to say, we are waiting with baited breath to see what these inventive chefs come up with next. The best part about the event is that the guests themselves vote upon who they think is best. We love to see democracy at work! (The Bell House)
