For a glimpse of upcoming events that we’ll be covering, check out the calendar in our side bar to your right. Otherwise, here are a few highlights to check out in and around Manhattan this weekend!

Arts & Culture

Saturday, October 13th – In an event that’s not related to New York Comic Con at all, head to the Lower East Side’s 154 Smartclothes to meet long time comic book illustrator and  writer of, “Meatcake” on Fantagraphics Dame Darcy. Ms. Darcy will shows some of her paintings and other works. (Dame Darcy)

Sports

Sunday, October 14th – It’s time for the New York Jets to step it up. Seriously guys lets go.  Injuries and Quarterback confusion have led the team down a nasty path. But with a hundred yard return on Monday, Gang Green still shows some life. Let’s see what they do against the Colts this weekend. I hope something. (New York Jets)

Music & Entertainment

Friday, October 5th – Movie release day. Quiet night tonight? Check out these two flicks coming out today.  It’s taut Rated R flicks all weekend long! Ben Affleck wears two brilliantly fitting hats as both director and actor in “Argo.” The film tells the incredibly unbelievable yet true tale of the CIA rescuing hostages through the ruse of a fake movie production. This flick is getting high marks, so it’s a must for this week. Halloween is coming, so it’s time to get scared. Join Ethan Hawke in the ghostly film, “Sinister.” There is something nasty afoot in pieces of footage and only the star of “Reality Bites” can solve it!

Sunday, October 14th – Masters of mainstream prog-rock, Silversun Pickups have been touring and pleasing ear buds worldwide for over four years. On Sunday you can “pick up” their sound from the front row when they rock Terminal 5! Be sure to arrive early and check out openers, Cloud Nothings and Atlas Genius. (Terminal 5)

Nightlife

Saturday, October 6th – This Saturday will mark six incredible years of Tenjune a staple of Meatpacking District and New York Nightlife. Lil Jon will provide his theatrics for what will surely be a night not to be missed. (Tenjune)

Other

Friday, October 12th – Sunday, October 14 – Where else but at New York Comic Con can you shake hands with Metallica Guitarist Kirk Hammett all while donning a Power Rangers uniform (not recommended)? This yearly super-sized weekend takes over the Javits Center tonight transforming it into a fortress of solitude featuring the very best in comics, signings, and soon to be released movies and television panels featuring the stars themselves. Andrew Lincoln and the cast of “The Walking Dead” will be on hand for what is sure to be a massively fun and revealing panel as they discuss the upcoming season. (New York Comic Con)

Friday, October 12th – Sunday, October 14th -  Well folks, it’s finally here! Get ready for your city to expand with flavor. The now famed Food Network Wine & Food Festival will set up shop all over town this weekend like you have never seen before. Tonight, kicks off with the granddaddy of them all with the  “Blue Moon Burger Bash hosted by Rachel Ray.” The “Burger Bash” is arguably one of the greatest yearly events for any festival. So if you can’t find a ticket online, call everyone you know! Saturday is equally as hot. Grab your passes and head to “The Oyster Bash hosted by Ben Sargent” at The Biergarten at The Standard, the Adam Richman hosted “Brooklyn’s Backyard,” and “Tacos & Tequila hosted by Bobby Flay.” Sunday concludes it all for this year with the “Paula Deen Brunch,” “The Art of the Sandwich hosted by Sara Jenkins,” the “Red Farm Dim Sum/Dumpling Seminar” and finally, the “Torrisi Family Dinner Seminar hosted by Ray Isle.” (New York City Wine & Food Festival)
