Blog: New York Needs You "YLB" Spring Fundraiser
At LocalBozo.com, we’re focused on bringing our readers more than just your bar and restaurant reviews or even simply recaps of live concert experiences. Since New York City has a plethora of different charities and organizations fundraising for their cause just about every night of the week, there’s a similarly philanthropic side to our outlet that you deserve to read about. It’s perhaps fitting then, that Thursday evening’s fundraiser at the spacious indoor-outdoor venue The Park, was thrown by nonprofit organization New York Needs You. And if their catchy name sounds familiar, it’s because we’ve brought their efforts to light several times over the past few years on account of the work they’ve been doing, and because of the noteworthy fundraising events that they produce.
New York Needs You was only formed back in 2009, but the impact that they’ve made over the past five years is undeniable. The group is focused on assisting ambitious college students that come from low income backgrounds that are designated underprivileged. Utilizing tools for student development, mentorships, education and networking, New York Needs You takes an aggressive, hands-on approach to ensure that first generation collegiate candidates are able to take the steps necessary to not only attend school but have a successful career to follow.
The warm weather on Thursday evening made for a picturesque setting inside west side bar/restaurant The Park, which features an outdoor but enclosed dining area that has a very rustic and woodsy setting. Dozens of New York Needs You supporters came out in droves for a five hour fundraiser hosted by the group’s Young Leadership Board- a group of diverse, forward thinking working professionals that recognize the need and the necessary persistence to bring partnerships, members and outright opportunities to the organization.
With DJ Commish working the mix and a variety of different silent auction items to entertain guests aside from the three available open bars, the bi-level space provided a unique and modern feel for the evening just as the sun was setting. And with an endless supply of typically outstanding pies sliced up courtesy of the folks at Artichoke Pizza & Basille, attendees were welcomed to enjoy their fill of small bites to pair with the likes of a “Tommy’s Margarita” or a “Black and Stormy,” prepared with Jameson Black Barrel whiskey. The successful event would raise thousands upon thousands of dollars New York Needs You on this night, but their efforts carry on. Do your part by taking a thorough look at their website for ways to get involved yourself- and to find out about the next NYNY night out at another Manhattan hotspot.
