If anyone was at this show ‘just to be there’ and had no idea that’s sad. There is always those elements unfortunately when a band gets press and buzz happens. I was on board with GHOST since the debut album was released and was at this show last night as well as the Webster Hall show. I was one of those people in the first few rows getting pushed around and knew every word. The Theatre At Webster Hall show was more satisfying for me and coming from this rock relic still going to shows at 44 years old, intimate venues to see bands is much more fun than going to some MSG show these days. The smaller the better. Bowery is a good place to see a band though and I will enjoy GHOST’s ride onward and upward if that be their way they want to go with it. Better this sort of spectacle than Lady CaCa. All we need is for her to don an Elizabeth shirt and its all over LOL!

Hmm.. I didn’t see any of the “metal” dynamics you did. This band is more like a slightly more energized form of Blue Oyster Cult than anything remotely metal. I really enjoyed the show, some of the hipster fans, not so much.

In overhearing conversations, it seemed like a lot of people were there just to be there. After the band started playing, it also appeared many had no idea what they sounded like previous to the show. I think some expected King Diamond, and were disappointed in the “Lite Rock For Satan” type music they got.

Finally, nothing is dangerous about Ghost. The lyrics are more cartoonish about their subject matter than serious. And as many, many have said — the lead singer’s “other” band is proof positive they only venture to the dark side for profit.

Great review, thanks!! I was there last night, too, and I think your write-up really nailed the show.

FYI, the “satanic cardinal” DOES have a name! He’s known as Papa Emeritus (Google it).

I’m looking forward to more great music and shows from GHOST!!!
